Lucy McBath plans to run for a new safely blue seat in the 7th District against Carolyn Bourdeaux after the GOP made McBath's district unwinnable.
National Rifle Association head Carolyn Meadows made racist and sexist remarks about McBath, a black lawmaker whose son was shot dead in 2012.
“People continue to die every single day," said Rep. Lucy McBath. "That is a public health crisis."
"Today comes just two months before I will fight for my son’s legacy in Congress - but it does not make the pain any less," the newly elected congresswoman said.
McBath, a Democrat, defeated Republican incumbent Karen Handel, who famously beat Ossoff in last year’s special election.
