A gift, no matter how small, is a statement that you care about someone. It is a gesture of love and peace that can make an enormous difference to a person. Acts of kindness are very important, but a gift endures in a way that an act of kindness doesn't. It is something physical that can rekindle memories years on.
The angels tell me that we often fail to understand the importance of gifts. I have been seeing angels since I was a baby and, strange as it may sound, I see them physically as I see people in front of me. I see a guardian angel behind each and every person, and I see lots of other angels too.
The angels tell me that gifts are very important and that we shouldn't wait for events like the holiday season or birthdays to give presents. We should give gifts when we feel the urge to do so. Often, when you see something and think of giving it to someone, it is your angel prompting you. Perhaps that person needs a reminder that they are loved or maybe they need to know that someone is thinking of them.
The angels tell me that we have become too wrapped up in materialism; that too many of us judge the value of a gift by its price, or feel embarrassed if we don't have money to spend on presents. What is important in a gift is the thought behind it, not the money spent on it. A handmade card made with love is much more valuable that the most expensive present.
Christmas is a special time -- a time when we all receive a gift. Since I was a child I have seen angels streaming from the Heavens and dropping balls of light upon every home during this time of the year. It doesn't matter what sort of home it is, big or small, or what religion, if any, the people are. These angels are bringing us a gift from God in Heaven: the gift of innocence. This gift helps us to reconnect with the true spirit of Christmas, with the joy that we felt at Christmas as children.
The angels need our help at this time of the year. You may suddenly feel an inclination to give someone you hardly know a little gift, a chocolate bar to someone who serves you in a shop, a homemade cake to an elderly neighbour, a card to a work colleague. So many people are given these thoughts by angels and reject them, thinking that it's too much trouble, too embarrassing or they fear that the person will reject the gift. Do listen and act: You have no idea what is going on in this person's life. It may be that they need this gift to give them hope, to help them to feel cared for and cherished.
The act of giving benefits the giver as well as the person who is receiving the gift. While we should always give with a pure heart, with joy, expecting nothing in return, we will frequently feel the benefits ourselves. Giving is an act of love that comes back on to us and multiplies our own blessings.
