Rotana Tarabzouni's Lorde Cover Will Make You Stand In Unity With Saudi Arabia's Women (VIDEO)

College Student's Song Will Make You Stand In Unity With Saudi Arabian Woman

Rotana Tarabzouni has a big voice, and she's using it to protest Saudi Arabia's ban on women drivers.

Last week, in preparation for the October 26 nationwide protest, Tarabzouni released an inspiring cover of teen sensation Lorde's song, "Team."

The Saudi Arabia native -- who is now a college student in California -- tailored a few of Lorde's lyrics to drive her point home.

"We live in cities you'll never see on screen," she sings. "Not very pretty, but we sure know how to drive free."

In only six days, the powerful cover has been viewed more than 80,000 times and has continued to share rapidly across the Internet.

"This video is a salute to any woman brave enough to stand up for her right and follow her dreams despite cultural barriers," Tarabzouni wrote on YouTube, "and a nudge to all those who are on their way."

On Saturday, more than 60 women across Saudi Arabia claimed they drove cars to defy the ban, according to the Associated Press. They reportedly faced little protest from police.

As many as 25 women even filmed themselves while driving and uploaded the videos to YouTube, CNN reported.

Tarabzouni, who moved to the U.S. to study communications at the University of Southern California, told Mashable that she still identifies with the women of Saudi Arabia.

"Saudi women have never been this loud or this brave," she said. "They're breaking so many barriers, and I've been so inspired."
