Oscar Isaac's Golden Globes Nomination Kept Him From An 'Awkward Position'

Golden Globe Nominee Oscar Isaac Doesn't Want To Think About The Oscars Yet

"Inside Llewyn Davis" star Oscar Isaac was a guest on Thursday morning's "TODAY" show when he found out about his Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor - Musical or Comedy.

"I tried to put it out of my head, but definitely being on the show, and the possibility of it not going my way, would have been an awkward position to be in," Isaac told HuffPost Entertainment by phone following the announcement. "Luckily, that didn't happen."

Isaac's nomination wasn't the only good news for "Inside Llewyn Davis": The Joel and Ethan Coen film, about a '60s folk singer (Isaac) who can't seem to get out of his own way on the road to success, was also cited by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in the Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy and Best Original Song categories. That original song nomination, for the track "Please Mr. Kennedy," which is sung by Isaac and co-stars Justin Timberlake and Adam Driver in the film, was a surprise because the song is based on previously released material.

"Yeah, it was really rewarding," Isaac said of the Golden Globes nod for "Please Mr. Kennedy," which will likely have a more difficult time grabbing an equivalent nomination from the Academy Awards. "The irony is that folk music is all about old songs being passed down and made new again. That can be a little frustrating, when the specific criteria [of originality] doesn't align with this whole entire genre of music. I was very happy that they included us there."

With his Best Actor Golden Globe nomination in tow, Isaac remains a contender for similar recognition from the Academy Awards. Not that he's thinking about the Oscars just yet.

"I just found out about these an hour ago! You're already pushing me to the Oscars?" he said with a laugh when asked about his Academy future. "Give me some time! I'm going to take it one day at a time, and today is a very nice day."

"Inside Llewyn Davis" is out in limited release now.
