Muslim Student Journalist Noor Tagouri Shows The Best Way To Deal With Fear And Loathing In Tennessee

Tennessee Bigots Harassed This Young Muslim Journalist -- Here's The Amazing Way She Reacted

Muslim college student and aspiring journalist Noor Tagouri received an unexpectedly ugly reception when she arrived in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, to cover a mosque hearing for her Journalism 361 class at the University of Maryland.

After attending the hearing, which discussed at proposed mosque cemetery, Tagouri was subjected to ignorant remarks and hateful comments from community members who were there in order to voice their opposition, including former GOP congressional candidate Lou Ann Zelenik, who ran in 2010.

Zelenik, executive director at the Tennessee Freedom Coalition, personally attacked Tagouri several times on camera while implying that she was the one in danger. Zelenik has not been shy to voice her opinion of Islam, saying in 2012 that "“I will work to stop the Islamination of our society, and do everything possible to prevent Sharia law from circumventing our laws and our Constitution." The Tennessee Freedom Coalition was put on a list of domestic hate groups by a U.S. Army member in 2013, according to Fox News.

Through it all, Tagouri remained calm and unflappable, clearly stating her intentions as a student journalist and catching the whole sordid incident on tape.

She joined HuffPost Live host Josh Zepps to talk about exactly what happened and how she reacted. Her mother even has a special invitation for Zelenik! Check it out above.
