Over the past year, certain previously inescapable A-listers have faded so far from the limelight that something strange begins to happen: We miss them.

Movie theaters aren't the same without their name on the marquee once in a while. So, we're calling on these 12 stars who were absent from 2013's movie lineup to jump back into our hearts. Here's what -- if anything -- we can expect from them in 2014.

Anne Hathaway

Winning the Oscar for "Les Misérables" was enough for Anne Hathaway, who told HuffPost Entertainment at Sundance that she faded from the 2013 spotlight because "people needed a break" from her. If you agree with her sentiment, this year might be tough: Hathaway stars in the music-themed drama "Song One" (which premiered at Sundance this month), and she'll follow that up with "Rio 2," enlightenment comedy "Don Peyote" and Christopher Nolan's space-travel epic "Interstellar."

The three-time Oscar winner hasn't made a movie since the much-maligned 2010 rom-com "How Do You Know," and that won't change this year. Keep an eye out for news of Warren Beatty's Howard Hughes biopic, which lost its financing in 2011 but is reportedly still alive. It's untitled as of yet, but Owen Wilson, Justin Timberlake, Alec Baldwin and Felicity Jones were among the rumored stars attached.
Sally Field

"Lincoln" star Sally Field went head-to-head with Hathaway for 2013's Best Supporting Actress Oscar, and then she joined her in kissing Hollywood goodbye for a year. You can see Field reprise her role as Aunt May in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" in May.
Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie hasn't starred in a live-action feature since 2010 (remember "The Tourist"?), but this year she'll headline one (Disney's "Maleficent") and direct another (WWII drama "Unbroken").
Andrew Garfield

We didn't see Peter Parker swing between any buildings last year, so Andrew Garfield's presence in our lives sadly vanished. That'll change in May when "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" opens. He also just filmed the drama "99 Homes," directed by Ramin Bahrani, who helmed the small but splashy indies "Man Push Cart" and "At Any Price." "Homes," which co-stars Laura Dern and Michael Shannon, centers on an unemployed father (Garfield) who has to take a job with the same real-estate broker who led to his home's foreclosure.
Mo'Nique

Mo'Nique hasn't appeared in a movie since 2009, when she earned praise (and an Oscar the following year) for "Precious" and took on a supporting role in "Steppin': The Movie." She's back on the big screen next month when "Blackbird" premieres at the Pan African Film Festival. As in "Precious," Mo'Nique's character won't be remembered as a top-notch movie mom. "Blackbird" casts her and Isaiah Washington as the unsupportive parents of a Mississippi teenager (newcomer Julian Walker) struggling to accept his homosexuality.
Eddie Redmayne

We're looking forward to Eddie Redmayne's appearance in the Wachowski siblings' next sci-fi outing, "Jupiter Ascending," in July, but it's the 2015 Stephen Hawking biopic "Theory of Everything" that has us really jonesing to see the "Les Misérables" stud back in action. "Everything" is directed by James Marsh ("Man on Wire," "Project Nim") and co-stars Felicity Jones, Emily Watson and David Thewlis.
Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron leads the way in two highly anticipated movies this year. First up is May's "A Million Ways to Die in the West," a Seth MacFarlane comedy in which she plays a gunslinger's feisty wife. Three months later, she'll usher in the first of two adaptations of Gillian Flynn novels: "Dark Places," the tale of a woman who must confront her family's brutal murder years after it happened.
Robert Pattinson

No more Edward Cullen here. Robert Pattinson will follow up "The Twilight Saga" with "Map to the Stars," another David Cronenberg reunion that doubles as a Hollywood satire co-starring Carrie Fisher, Julianne Moore and John Cusack. Also on the horizon are Australian Outback thriller "The Rover" and "Mission: Blacklist," which will depict the capturing of Saddam Hussein.
Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore will have a busy spring: a new baby and a movie reunion with "50 First Dates" co-star Adam Sandler. The duo reteams for May's "Blended," a rom-com about two single parents whose attraction manifests while they're stuck at a resort facility for families.
Hugh Grant

Hugh Grant's resume has thinned out over the past several years, but the rom-com savant will return to his origins with "The Reluctant Professor." In it, Grant plays an Oscar-winning screenwriter who falls for a single mom after leaving Hollywood for the East Coast. Marisa Tomei, Allison Janney and J.K. Simmons co-star.
Frances McDormand

Despite credits in Wes Anderson and Gus Van Sant movies in 2012, we won't catch Frances McDormand in theaters until November 2015, when Pixar's "The Good Dinosaur" opens. McDormand voices the mother dino, with John Lithgow on board as her Jurassic hubby.
