Jodi Arias Trial: Juror Complains Of Being Approached By Reporter (UPDATED)

Jodi Arias Juror Complains Of Being Approached By Reporter (UPDATED)

A juror at the trial of Jodi Arias has complained to the presiding judge that a reporter approached the juror, the courthouse public information officer reported via Twitter.

"One of the Jurors reported that they were approached by a reporter … This is never allowed," reads a Tweet posted to the official Twitter account for Maricopa County Superior Court in Arizona.

The incident apparently happened during the afternoon recess on Tuesday.

Arias, a 32-year-old photographer, is accused of shooting her ex-boyfriend Travis Alexander in the face, stabbing him 27 times and slitting his throat from ear to ear in the shower of his Mesa apartment on June 4, 2008. She has pleaded not guilty to murder, contending she was a victim of domestic violence and killed Alexander in self-defense. Prosecutors allege Arias was jealous and did not want Alexander to see other women.

Judge Sherry K. Stephens, apparently decided that no impropriety had taken places and has taken no known action. Stephens has repeatedly told the jurors not to discuss the case with anyone, including other jurors. She also has told trial spectators and participants not to talk to jurors.

UPDATE: 6:54 p.m. -- Judge Stephens discussed the issue at the end of court Wednesday. She said an escort has been arraigned to walk with the jury to and from lunch, and when they leave the courthouse at the end of each day.

"[The] media has been approached and they are aware they are not to contact any jurors," Stephens said.
