Jennifer Lawrence's Pixie Cut Decision, Explained: 'It Just Couldn't Get Any Uglier'

Jennifer Lawrence On Why She Cut Her Hair: 'It Just Couldn't Get Any Uglier'

Jennifer Lawrence had us all doing double-takes this week when she debuted a bold pixie cut, which earned her praise from some and "WTF? Isn't that Kate Gosselin hair?" comments from others.

So why did Lawrence, she of the flowing blonde locks and kickass messy braids in "Hunger Games," get the chop? "I don’t know, I cut it earlier, and it was just kind of like [shoulder-length] and it grew to that awkward, gross length, and I just kept putting it back in a bun, and I said, 'Well I don’t want to do this,' so I just cut it off," J.Law told Marissa Mayer during a Yahoo interview on Thursday. "It just couldn't get any uglier."

Aw, Jen, that's not true. (Is this the "gross" length you were referring to?) But we do sympathize with that awkward growing-out stage. Michelle Obama had the same issue, griping that growing her bangs out was "getting a little irritating."

We totally get it. Still, we're not certain Lawrence's best solution was to chop it off into a rather mature pixie. (Was anyone else getting major mom vibes?) Check it out again and tell us what you think... and see a few ladies below who grew out their short cuts in creative ways in the slideshow.
