Jake Peavy Shops With Chicago Students For Back-To-School Supplies (PHOTOS)

PHOTOS: Sox Pitcher Takes Chicago Kids Back-To-School Shopping

In between serving up strikeouts, Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Jake Peavy took a break from his schedule to dole out school supplies to Chicago students at a downtown Staples.

The athlete and his Jake Peavey Foundation are joining the office supply chain in an initiative to assemble and donate hundreds of bags of school supplies to the Union League Boys and Girls Club of Chicago, an organization that teaches area youth leadership skills through after-school club activities and community service.

On Tuesday, Peavey led Chicago student club members on a shopping spree at the Staples store at 711 W. Jackson Blvd. Between helping kids pick out pens, notebooks, art supplies and more, the Sox star posed for photos and signed autographs with his young fans.

Staples will be accepting school supplies and donations through Sept. 15 as part of their national school supply drive, and 100 percent of the proceeds will be donated to local educational non-profits. Donations made at the West Jackson location will benefit the Union League Boys and Girls Club of Chicago specifically.
