Ashley Greene, 'Breaking Dawn' Star, On Leaving 'Twilight' Behind & 'The Hunger Games'

Ashley Greene Says Goodbye To 'Twilight'

The "Twilight" franchise, which comes to an end with the release of "Breaking Dawn Part 2," did more than turn Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner into global superstars. The series also launched the careers of supporting actors like Ashley Greene, who rode her newfound fame to not just magazine covers but also starring roles in the upcoming rock biography "CBGB" and the horror feature "Satanic."

Greene, 25, plays Alice Cullen in the "Twilight" films, the clairvoyant vampire sister of Edward (Pattinson). In "Breaking Dawn Part 2," Alice alerts her brother and his new wife, Bella, about an impending strike by the Volturi on the Cullen clan, thus giving the group time organize a counterattack.

HuffPost Entertainment spoke to the charming Greene about her recent travel difficulties, some of her favorite "Twilight" memories, and who would play her character in any future franchise reboots.

I saw on Twitter that you were stuck in New York during Hurricane Sandy and had to cancel some "Twilight" press obligations. Now, today in New York, we're in the middle of a Nor'easter. You don't seem to have the best luck with weather.I think my flight's getting canceled tomorrow. I've been kidnapped by New York. I have literally been trying to fly out for a few weeks now. It's all right, I have a place here; it's not the worst thing. I'm like, "I hope I get to Los Angeles for the premiere." [Ed. note: She did.]

This is the end of your obligations to the "Twilight" franchise. Does it feel like college graduation? It really does. It's exciting to move forward in my career and take the opportunities that have been given to me. I think having the time to shoot other stuff is a big plus, but I had a lot of fun doing the "Twilight" films. I really loved the cast, and I feel I'm probably not going to be part of something like this again in my career. The fan interaction is always something I'm in awe of as well. All these people at the premieres and other events, they're so passionate and so in love with the work. It's a really great feeling. So, I will miss that.

Do you think the fans are going to be what you remember most in 15 or 20 years?I definitely think they're one of the big ones. The first premiere was really incredible. They all are. I feel like every time it's kind of this irreplaceable feeling. But seeing how we brought these characters to life and seeing how the fans respond to it and how passionate they are, it's definitely a cool memory to have. The whole journey has been really incredible and I'm really happy that we have it documented. I think that's really cool. I'm going to be able to have this for the rest of my life. Also, each year, bonding with the cast and knowing that I got to go to work with these people who I've become so close with -- that was a nice thing.

That's kind of an anomaly for these long-running franchises. By the end, it usually seems like the cast can't wait to get away from each other. It was definitely a pleasant surprise. Starting out four years ago, we were all really young, and I think things happened very quickly. We all have different personalities, and the fact that they all meshed so well together was a nice thing to have. I think we've all heard stories about there being drama on set, and with us, for the most part, it was pretty drama-free. That made work a lot easier. I can't imagine going to work every day and really disliking my cast members.

Do you think you would have still had this big career if not for the "Twilight" films? You know, I have no idea. I definitely don't think it would have happened as quickly, but I'd like to think I'd still be working a bit by now. I just think everything was kind of sped up. I definitely think I wouldn't have this fan community around me in the way that I do. That's something "Twilight"-specific that's really special. But yeah, I know people who have been working and working and working for years, and getting a job here and there, but it's a tough industry. I'm extremely thankful things happened the way that they did. That there was a book that this woman wrote who's character I happen to be able to portray. It's a really crazy thing to think about.

Going forward, what kind of roles do you want to take? For me, it's all about doing different things and going outside my comfort zone. Thinking out of the box and rounding out my resume. It's important that people know you can portray different characters. If they don't see that, how are they supposed to know you can do it? I want to do a little bit of everything. I think a female-driven action film would be really fun -- which is definitely hard to find. I want to do a period piece; I'm obsessed with Marie Antoinette. I think it would be fun to explore that world. It just depends if I read the script and I'm really engaged and the character's well-rounded. It's just kind of case by case.

Do you like other YA franchises, like "The Hunger Games"?Yeah, I did read "The Hunger Games." I went to see it in theaters, too. I really loved it; I think it's really fun. I don't connect with every franchise, but "Hunger Games" is definitely really good.

There has been a lot of talk about a possible "Twilight" reboot. Who do you think should play Alice if that comes to pass?I might be a little jealous [laughs]. I always thought Rachel Leigh Cook would make a cool Alice. She was rumored when the first "Twilight" was being made. Before I booked the role, they had all this stuff online about who Stephenie Meyer had in mind and Rachel was the one on there where I thought, "Yeah, OK." That's who I saw in my head.

Now people envision you when they think of Alice.Yeah, I'm just going to reprise my role. No one's ever going to play Alice but me [laughs].
