iPhone Coming To Sprint: WSJ Report

WSJ: iPhone Coming To Sprint

Sprint customers, your wait is over: The iPhone is coming to you soon.

According to the Wall Street Journal, when the iPhone 5 is released (either in late September or in early October, depending on the rumors), it will also be available on the Sprint network, as well as on AT&T and Verizon.

The report, which is according to "people familiar with the matter," also puts the iPhone 5 release date in mid-October.

The WSJ wrote also that Sprint will be getting the iPhone 4 at the same time.

Neither Sprint nor Apple have commented or confirmed the report.

Sprint is the third largest network by total subscribers in the United States with 51.1 million users (as of February 2011), following AT&T (95.5 million) and Verizon (101.1 million). Sprint's most popular phone is currently the HTC Evo 4G, according to the NPD Group. The Evo 4G is also the 3rd most popular cell phone in America, behind the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 3GS.

Sprint becomes the third cell phone carrier in America to acquire the iPhone for its network. Verizon got the iPhone 4 in February 2011, after three years of the Apple phone being exclusively available in America on the AT&T network.

Also today in iPhone 5 rumors, Reuters reported that there will be two new iPhones in the fall: One cheaper version with 8GB storage and a less expensive frame, and one more expensive version with a bigger touchscreen and an upgraded rear-facing camera. TechCrunch, meanwhile, spoke to a source who claimed that the new iPhones would be so-called "world phones" (able to work on both CDMA and GSM networks), while MacRumors posted leaked pictures that suggested that the iPhone 5 will have identical battery life to the iPhone 4.
