New Zealand Snowstorm Believed To Be Heaviest In 30 Years (VIDEO)

WATCH: New Zealand Blanketed By Record Snowstorm

New Zealanders were witnesses to what some forecasters are describing as a once-in-a-lifetime event Monday as the nation was hit with its heaviest snowstorm in 30 years.

As the Daily Mail is reporting, the country was plunged into darkness as flights were grounded and roads closed after being blanketed by the storm. But as the Associated Press video shows, many citizens didn't seem to mind too much, engaging in snowball fights and making snow angels as they strolled about their winter wonderland.

"Looking at oncoming drivers and seeing their smiles as we were fascinated by this unusual occurrence - it was truly delightful to see, yet all too short," Auckland resident Kevin Prohl is quoted as saying by the New Zealand Herald.

The country's unusual cold snap was expected to last until Wednesday.
