Celebrity Death Hoaxes (PHOTOS)

Don't go to New Zealand if you're a celebrity, you'll probably end up dead. Of course that's not really true, but falling off the Kauri Cliffs has been the cause of death -- or death hoaxes-- for countless celebs.

Actress and singer Hilary Duff is the latest star to be initiated into the Internet death hoax club, with reports of her death surfacing online yesterday.

While Duff is still very much alive, she's the victim of a fake news generator called Global Associated News, which is a front for Fake A Wish, the template that allows users to insert an actors name into the generator and create an "article" about their death.

The website does have a disclaimer, but it is often overlooked before it's sent around the Internet as fact:

"All stories/articles are dynamically generated using a generic 'template' and are not factual. Any reference to specific individuals has been 100% fabricated by web site visitors who have created fake stories by entering a name into a blank 'non-specific' template for the purpose of entertainment."

At least it explains why so many celebrities have been reported to have met their untimely ends in New Zealand.
