Denver Mayoral Runoff 2011: Voters Decide Between Chris Romer and Michael Hancock For Denver's New Mayor

ELECTION DAY

After a Denver mayoral race that started months ago and a runoff for the last month, the city of Denver will finally have a new mayor Tuesday. As it’s too late to mail in the ballots, voters have less than 12 hours to drop off ballots by hand before the 7 p.m. deadline.

According to 9News, approximately 30 percent of all mail ballots have been returned in the runoff election as of Tuesday morning and it’s very likely that turnout will be as low as the original mayoral election - as of Tuesday, there are still roughly 200,000 outstanding ballots.

The possibility of a low turnout means every vote that comes in is critical for each candidate, so both Chris Romer and Michael Hancock continued to press the flesh Monday.

CBSDenver reports that Romer, riding around on a city Firetruck engaging with voters was feeling confident stating:

I’m going to win this tomorrow night by 1,000 votes.

Hancock, in an RV, meeting and greeting Denver's electorate, stated to CBSDenver:

I feel very strong going in we’ve done everything I think that we can possibly do to win the race.

Denver voters can still turn in their ballots until 7 p.m. at any of the 13 Voter Service Centers around the city. Find the nearest Service Center to you with this Denver’s Service Center Location Search.
