PREVIOUSLY:

Alec Baldwin is no longer ready to rock.

The Emmy-winning "30 Rock" star has dropped out of the big screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical "Rock of Ages," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Announced as part of the cast in March, Baldwin had been slated to play Dennis Dupree, an over-the-hill rockstar and bar owner.

It's a blow to the star-studded cast, which also features Tom Cruise as rockstar Stacee Jaxx, Russell Brand as narrator and concert venue owner Lonny, Malin Ackerman as a naive journalist, Catherine Zeta-Jones as a social conservative anti-rock crusader, Paul Giamatti as the mayor of LA and Julianne Hough as an aspiring singer.

Baldwin was even set to sing a song in the film, something fans will be sore to miss out on.

He's still set for another big screen foray, at least, having recently joined the cast of Woody Allen's next film, set to be shot in Italy.
