Malin Akerman Joins 'Rock Of Ages' Opposite Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise's New On Screen Lover

Finally, Tom Cruise has his new on-screen lady love. Luckily, he had no superheroes to contend with this time.

After Anne Hathaway was lured away by the role of Catwoman in "The Dark Knight Rises," and Amy Adams couldn't resist Superman, "Bang Bang Club" star Malin Akerman has been cast in "Rock of Ages," as Constance, a naive journalist who falls for Cruise's 80's rock star Stacee Jaxx.

Akerman's casting rounds out a star-studded lineup for the Adam Shankman-directed Broadway adaptation. Russell Brand will play a music venue owner and sing an REO Speedwagon song with Alec Baldwin, who will play Dennis Dupree, a washed up rocker and club owner. Julianne Hough will play the young, naive singer new to LA; Bryan Cranston will play the mayor of LA; Catherine Zeta-Jones takes on a conservative out to destroy rock; and Mary J. Blige will also be in the film.

Cruise is working hard to impress Akerman; Shankman recently spoke of the "rock star bootcamp" to which he sent the star, though he added that Cruise had a natural knack for singing.

"It wasn't until our first go around with his voice lesson that we sort of looked at each other and went, 'This is gonna work!'" he told Entertainment Weekly. "And we were basically dancing around the living room and high-fiving each other because he actually has a fantastic voice. His grandfather or his great-grandfather was an opera singer, so apparently he's genetically predisposed for this sort of thing."
