Huffington Post Divorce Holds Meetup In Tribeca

Love Blooms At "The Moment I Knew" HuffPost Divorce Event

A capacity crowd of divorcees gathered for cocktails and passed hor d'ouevres at Maaco Trading Co. in Tribeca last night, where Melissa Francis, host of CNBC's Divorce Wars, emceed Huffington Post Divorce's first event - "The Moment I Knew" Meetup with some help from meetup.com.

A small stage and spotlight featured 10 writers and comedians sharing the moment they knew their marriage was over.

Joel Dovev, a comedian and creator of Crap At My Parents House blog, was the first to perform, revealing a series of moments that he should have known, as well as the moment he did know (during a game of Apples to Apples).

The stories ran the gamut from very funny to deeply sad. Brooke Van Poppelen, Emerging Comic winner and two-time Best Female Stand-Up nominee for NYC's Excellence in Comedy Awards, shared in NYC while her ex-husband Tony Sam took the stage at the same event in Los Angeles.

"The Moment I Knew" originated when when HuffPo Divorce editor Sara Wilson asked readers to share their stories via twitter. The response on the site was overwhelming (see a slideshow of some of the best tweets here), and in between speakers last night, Melissa Francis shared some of the best 140-character tales of heartbreak.

Confirmed reports indicate that at least two divorcees did not leave the party alone.
