Urn Thieves Leave Apology Note, But No Urn

Urn Thieves Leave Apology Note

Thieves in Black Forest, Colorado still haven't returned a stolen urn, as authorities had been urging for weeks, but at least they feel bad about it.

On Sunday, January 8 thieves broke into the home of Bob Herrle and stole several of his possessions, including a mahogany-colored box that contained the ashes of his deceased wife, Terry.

Herrle's neighbors, who were also robbed that day, agreed to post a $1,500 reward for information on the burglars, and the El Paso County Sheriff's department sent out a press release urging the thieves to return the urn, "even if anonymously."

On Saturday, police found what is being referred to as an "apology note" thought to be from the thieves.

Saturday, police got a call about a canvas bag found outside Trinity Church of the Nazarene. Inside officiers said they found a note, but no urn.

The note said somebody had found an urn and, "once they realized what it was they treated it with the utmost respect," Sheriff's spokeswoman Lt. Lari Sevene said.

Herrle says that, if he can afford it, he will double the reward for information on the whereabouts of the urn to $3,000.
