Gulf Fishermen See Little Hope For The Future

CNN's John King interviewed fisherman Nello Barber on the effects of the oil spill on his business. Barber responded that he comes to the harbor every day just to "stand by." He told CNN that he doesn't think he'll ever be able to work in the area again.

Barber ignored a question about whether he thought he'd be able to reclaim any money from BP. "All I want to do is go to work," he said.

Others whose livelihoods are affected by the oil spill have come to terms with their inability to work and are asking for help. Fisherman Bernard Johnson told the Miami Herald that his wife had just applied for food stamps; that's the first time in generations that someone in his family has asked for government assistance, he said.
