Danielle Staub On Contemplating Suicide After 'Real Housewives Of New Jersey' (VIDEO)

Former 'Real Housewives' Star: 'I Was Contemplating Killing Myself'

The drama that erupted between "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" cast in its first year turned Danielle Staub, a mother of two with a secret past, into a reality TV villain. In season one's infamous table-flipping scene, Staub's castmates confronted her about her criminal past, including allegations of prostitution and an arrest for extortion.

It's been almost four years since Staub has been on the "Housewives." She tells "Oprah: Where Are They Now?" she walked away in 2010 after the public scrutiny became too much for her and her family.

"Unfortunately, there was some really difficult moments which ended up being the turning point for me," she says in the above video.

In her darkest moment, Staub says she contemplated suicide.

"It was a weekend I just really didn't want anyone around me," she says. "And I actually asked my children's father if he would take them for a couple of days because I was contemplating killing myself."

"The only reason that I didn't," Staub says, becoming emotional, "is because I would never want that to be the last memory that my kids had of me."

Staub says the dismal thoughts she had when she hit bottom run against what she truly believes. "Live life, be happy always," she says. "Find something positive."

"Oprah: Where Are They Now?" airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on OWN.
