The 10 Best Things About Being Married

By Kellee Khalil for Lover.ly

In our opinion, there’s nothing quite like lifelong love, and saying your wedding vows does make that love feel a little different!

Here are 10 reasons why being married is great.

married couple

1. You can call, text, email and say whatever's on your mind without fear of scaring him or her off.
When you've just started dating someone, there’s always a fear that you're one misunderstood text message away from getting dumped. Once you're married, you can text, call, email, G-chat, and send flowers to the office every day without fear of coming on too strong.

2. You'll have someone to take care of you "in sickness."
When you're under the weather, there's nothing worse than having to drag yourself to the drugstore in your sweats to get tissues, lozenges and chicken soup. Having someone there to take care of you when you're sniffling and whiny is awesome, and we're sure your mom will be glad to finally be off the hook.

3. You'll have a permanent sing-along, dance-along, and adventure-along buddy.
Being married allows you to be totally, 100 percent yourself at all times. You'll always have someone who will laugh with you, dance with you and sing in the car with you -- or at least someone to lovingly roll their eyes at you when you're feeling punchy.

4. You'll have a two-person team to handle everything.
Sure, you can deal with waiting for the cable guy, taking the cat to the vet, doing the grocery shopping, and re-painting your bedroom alone -- but it's so much easier to get the day-to-day errands and annoying household tasks done when you've got a buddy. Bonus: a great partner makes even the most mundane chores more fun.

5. You’ll have a cheerleader and a partner in crime.
Had a crappy day at work? No worries. You’re going home to your #1 fan! Your spouse will always be there to cheer you on, whether you're trying a new class at the gym, trying to get into law school or vying for a promotion. Why? Because it's you two against the world!

6. Legal rights.
Married people have the right to visit each other in the hospital, make informed decisions about each other's lives, share health insurance and file taxes together. There are huge benefits associated with these rights (which is one of the reasons all couples should have access to legal marriage).

7. Shared financial goals.
Two salaries = more money. And you can put that money toward shared goals, like moving into a bigger place or taking a vacation, which is a lot more fun than splitting up the bills with a roommate.

8. Creating new family traditions.
Starting your own little family and creating new must-dos for holidays and vacations is so exciting. You can plan the things you've always wanted to do (spend Christmas in Europe, rent a cabin on a lake for Labor Day, have breakfast in bed on birthdays, etc) and make every special occasion a little sweeter.

9. You'll have a lifelong cuddle buddy/sex partner.
You might not feel like newlyweds forever, but you’ll always have a partner you knows your likes, dislikes, when you need a cuddle and what makes your body tick.

10. Spousal telepathy.
Give your spouse "the look" and he or she will automatically know it's time to eat, get serious, or get the eff out of this party.
