Luis Suarez Banned 9 Matches, 4 Months By FIFA After World Cup Biting Incident (VIDEO)

Suarez Banned

FIFA has taken a bite out of Luis Suarez' future.

“Such behaviour cannot be tolerated on any football pitch, and in particular not at a FIFA World Cup when the eyes of millions of people are on the stars on the field," Chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee Claudio Sulser said in a statement released on Thursday. "The Disciplinary Committee took into account all the factors of the case and the degree of Mr Suarez’s guilt in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Code. The decision comes into force as soon it is communicated."

The incident occurred in the latter stages of Uruguay's 1-0 win over Italy. Suarez went unpunished on the play even as Chiellini attempted to show the official teeth marks on his left shoulder.

According to FIFA, the suspension will begin at the World Cup with Uruguay's Round of 16 match against Colombia on June 28. The 27-year-old who plays for Liverpool will also be ordered to pay a fine of 100,000 Swiss francs.
