Plane Almost Lands On Sunbather In Germany (VIDEO)

LOOK OUT! Plane Nearly Lands On Sunbather

A sunbather on a German beach had a close call, but it wasn't with an errant volleyball, strong currents, broken glass or any of the other usual seaside hazards.

It was with an airplane.

The beach at Heligoland is located next to a small airport, and a Piper PA-28-181 Archer II airplane came in way too low, as the video above shows.

"I was watching the planes come into land. I had seen five planes land before this one came in. I instantly realized that this one was coming in to land far too low," 52-year-old Rainer Schmidt, who shot the video, told the Daily Telegraph. "The others were at least six meters (nearly 20 feet) high. It was so close to the man on the beach. The man was very lucky."

Pilot Juergen Drucker, 52, said he was sorry.

"As the pictures show, that it wasn't one of my greatest achievements in the cockpit," Drucker said, according to the description posted with the video. "In my defense I can say that I didn't see him because he was lying down and I'm just very grateful it worked out well and I didn't land on him. I don't want to say any more than that. I fear I will be in for a fine from the Federal Aviation Office but I hope I will be able to keep my license."

Sunbathers may be hoping that he doesn't.
