It was the first day on the job for emergency dispatcher Crystal Morrow.
After months of training, the Georgia resident was ready to take calls by herself. By chance, one of the calls the new 911 operator took on her first shift was about her father.
Morrow picked up the phone on her first day back in August and heard a familiar voice on the other end, ABC News reports. Checking the name and number, she realized the call was from her aunt. The woman told her that Morrow's father, who suffers from diabetes, had gone into shock, WAGA-TV reports.
"[M]y hands froze over the keyboard but I knew I had to go ahead and get it in," Morrow told the outlet.
Morrow did not identify herself, and remained calm on the line as she gave instructions to her aunt. She notified emergency medical services and sent paramedics to the scene.
Morrow's 55-year-old father survived the incident, according to ABC News. After help arrived, Morrow's employer told her to go check on her father.
