Teen Designs Search Engine To Help Senior Citizens, Charities

Maryland high school junior Sunmee Huh has created a new search engine that helps the elderly and gives back to charity, the Washington Post reports.

The soft-spoken Richard Montgomery High School junior saw the difficulties her 82-year-old grandfather, Sam Auh, a stroke survivor, endured when using the Web. "It was difficult for him to see the font," said Huh, 16, of Germantown. "He had trouble telling the difference between regular search results and sponsored ones."

So Huh designed Good50 a search engine based on Google's search program that has large font capabilities to suit the elderly, people with vision problems and young children. It may also help people who spend long hours staring at the computer screen, Huh said.

The teen is also altruistic with her Web innovation. For every 50 visits to the search engine, Huh pledges five cents to a featured charity, with $50 dollars donated at a time. The first charity to benefit will be American Red Cross for Haiti earthquake relief.
