Johnny Weir: Men Want To See 'Men Hitting Each Others' Ass' (VIDEO)

Johnny Weir has certainly been busy lately. The Olympic figure skater launched a reality TV show, and was soon caught up in controversy when animal rights groups protested the fur in his Olympic outfit. (He ultimately relented.)

He also conducted an interview for HBO Real Sports. Frank Deford asked Weir if he thinks "the fact that some people dismiss figure skating as 'gay' hurts the sport?" The skater gave a detailed answer, at one point humorously observing that men "want to see spandex-ed men hitting each others' ass and throwing a ball." Scroll down for the full response, as well as video of the question and answer.

"I know that for the men's population of the Unites States, figure skating is a 'gay' sport and that's a misconception. There are so many straight athletes in figure skating. But I think it's the music and the costumes that turn most men off. Because they want to see, well, they want to see spandex-ed men hitting each others' ass and throwing a ball. It's very different."
