It looks like Big Sean had a direct phone call with Santa this year, requesting her new diamond bling arrive in time for the holiday photo ops. New fiance, actress, and singer Naya Rivera showed off her spanking new diamond necklace on Instagram: "Merry Christmas. photo and gift credit @bigsean."

The picture not only shows us a close up of her newly gifted necklace, but also a nice view of the complementary diamond engagement ring -- the common denominator being the round diamonds on her neck and those encircling the center stone and shank of her ring.

And I wonder if Big Sean chose this particular type of diamond necklace in light of his fiance's last name. Naya's last name Rivera is similar to the French word "rivière," meaning both river and necklace. The term diamond rivière necklace is usually used to refer to this kind of necklace: a diamond necklace comprised of a strand of graduated sizes of diamonds all the way around the neck coming to a peak with the largest stone in the center of the nape (as opposed to a traditional diamond necklace featuring a much larger center diamond pendant). The term rivière describes the effect of diamonds flowing around the woman's neck, much like a river flows steadily from one point to another.

But whether or not Big Sean and Naya have made the linguistic connection between her last name and her new rocking rivière, we're pretty sure they're enjoying this new addition to her jewelry box.
