A winter storm expected to move through Chicago over the weekend could spell trouble as the holiday travel weekend begins at the city's O'Hare and Midway airports.
Some parts of the Chicago area -- namely the north and northwest suburbs -- were already under a freezing rain advisory through 3 p.m. Friday, but the biggest trouble is expected to come Saturday night when most of the metropolitan area goes under a winter storm watch that will continue through 6 p.m. Sunday, according to ABC Chicago.
That storm could bring both light snow and freezing drizzle that could make for treacherous, icy driving conditions. NBC Chicago reports up to seven inches of snow could fall northwest of the city in the suburbs, while between two and four inches could fall in the city and southern and western suburbs.
Meanwhile, northwest Indiana might dodge snow but could get heavy rains that may make for flooding conditions, according to CBS Chicago.
The Chicago Weather Center blog notes the storm system expected to arrive Saturday remains on a somewhat uncertain track, meaning it's difficult predict what exact sort of precipitation could fall where and when.
The AP reports operations at Midway were normal Friday and that only minor disruptions were being reported at O'Hare.
