Arapahoe High Shooting Victim Remains In Coma

The 17-year-old student shot Friday afternoon at Arapahoe High School in Centennial, Colo. is in a coma and remains in critical condition.

Claire Davis' family posted an update on their daughter's condition on Littleton Adventist Hospital's Facebook page, Sunday night:

Davis, a senior at Arapahoe High School, was shot point-blank in the head on Friday when she wound up in the path 18-year-old of shooting suspect Karl Pierson.

Authorities do not believe Davis was targeted by Pierson.

"She is an innocent young lady, and she was an innocent victim of an evil act of violence," Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson said to ABC News over the weekend. "She probably was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Pierson entered the high school around 12:30 p.m. on Friday carrying a pump-action shotgun, a machete, three Molotov cocktails and with ammunition strapped to his body. According to The Denver Post, Pierson legally bought the shotgun several days before, allegedly to enact a revenge plot against the school's librarian and debate coach, Tracy Murphy.

The rampage only lasted 80 seconds. Pierson was found dead inside the school of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"We all have to keep Claire in our thoughts and prayers," Colorado's governor John Hickenlooper told CBS' "Face The Nation", over the weekend.

7News reports that a close friend to the Davis family said that the main concern is the swelling around Claire's brain.

"Our beautiful daughter Claire Davis has severe head trauma as a result of a gunshot." the family said in a statement released during a news conference on Saturday, according to 7News.

Over the weekend, there were numerous vigils and rallies around Centennial for Claire. On Saturday, nearly 500 people gathered for a candlelight vigil near the school.
