Filmmaker Tiffany Shlain Discuss Her Family's 'Technology Shabbat' (VIDEO)

WATCH: Filmmaker And Her Family Observe Weekly 'Tech Shabbat'

Filmmaker Tiffany Shlain loves technology so much that she founded the Webby Awards, but she still knows the value of unplugging.

Shlain spoke with HuffPost Live's Nancy Redd about her family's decision to take "technology shabbats," a time once a week where they completely disconnect from technology. Shlain pointed out that most kids who are glued to mobile devices have parents who do the same thing, so she's taken the initiative to set a positive example for her children.

"I'm a believer that parenting is all about modeling behavior," she said. "If my husband and I say, 'One day a week we value being completely present,' then they'll understand that's like a family value."

And her children love the freedom from technology just as much as their parents, Shlain said.

"We love the day," she said. "We make a beautiful dinner on Friday night, then Saturday we have an amazing day doing things that don't involve screens. We go outside, we do a lot of art projects."
