'Scandal' Shockers About Olivia's Mom, Fitz's Future Plans

At this point, we give up on finding the most scandalous and shocking moment each week on "Scandal." There are just too many. And so, we're just going to run down the moments that had us falling off the edges of our seats this episode.

First up, Olivia's mother was determined to get out of Eli's prison So what did she do? We'll let the doctor tell you. "She ate her own wrists, sir.” Yes she did, thus explaining creator Shonda Rhimes' the pre-episode warning to not eat before the first commercial break. But the fun didn't stop there.

Maya wound up in the hospital after her wrist-biting incident, where Eli hinted that it's somehow her own fault she missed out on Olivia's life for the past 20 years -- did she have something to do with the bomb? But Maya escaped again, leading to a reunion Olivia could have never prepared for. "Hi, Livy," Maya told her daughter calmly, who could only look on in shock.

On the 'shipper front, Fitz brought Olivia to a secret location where he revealed the house he'd envisioned the two of them growing old in together. And just like that, they're back on ... for now. E! Online's Jenna Mullins couldn't keep up, saying this was all insane.

Over at Buddy TV, Sydney Boles wrote, "Besides knocking everybody to the floor with ridiculously heart-thumping drama, this week's episode broke primetime history... It was the first episode to feature a black lead actress (hello, Kerry Washington... call me!), a black woman directing (Shonda Rhimes) and a black woman producer (the incredible Ava DuVernay).”

"Scandal" airs every Thursday at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
