Media Outlets Rally To Raise Money For Haiti

Media outlets in Chicago were quick to cover the devastating Haiti earthquake, and now they are teaming up with the American Red Cross to help raise money for relief efforts.

The Red Cross will join local television and radio stations as well as print and Web publications for a "blitz of public service announcements" set to run Thursday. The announcements urge viewers, readers and listeners to call (877) 565-5000 beginning at 5 a.m. to contribute to the American Red Cross Haitian relief effort.

Hewitt Associates, based in suburban Lincolnshire, will provide a phone bank staffed by 1,500 volunteers to handle the expected call volume.

Chicagoans can also donate at www.chicagoredcross.org/haiti or by texting "Haiti" to 90999.
