Portia de Rossi Discusses Coming Out At Golden Globes

WATCH: Portia de Rossi Discusses The First Time She 'Stepped Out As A Gay Woman'

Portia de Rossi recently stopped by "Inside the Actors Studio" to discuss a number of topics, including the first time that she publicly came out as a lesbian and her relationship with Ellen DeGeneres.

Responding to a question about petitioning to change her last name to "DeGeneres," James Lipton prompted the "Arrested Development" star to share the story behind the first time she came out as a lesbian.

"I think when I really, truly came out was the Golden Globes when 'Arrested Development' was nominated," she tells Lipton in the clip above. "Ellen and I had been together for a month and I was very, very nervous going to that because I knew that I was going to meet up with her after the show... we actually stepped out together as a couple but, for me, it was the first time that I stepped out as a gay woman."

The personal sentiment comes on the heels of a recent interview in which de Rossi discussed how she "just didn't want to be a lesbian" and her struggles to come to terms with her sexuality.
