Jen Lu, Art Director, Schools Us On Drugstore Beauty Shopping

Why You Don't Need To Spend A Lot Of Money On Makeup

Have you ever noticed a woman on the street and grown envious of how pulled together she looked? Well, that's exactly how we felt when we met Jen Lu. The spec-wearing art director was dressed like a J.Crew model in an autumn catalog. (FYI: Her nude eyeglasses are an Oliver Peoples and Paul Smith collaboration.)

"A lot of grays and tons of layers are my favorite part of fall," said Lu. "And I love different textures -- today I'm wearing wool, cashmere and leather."

Besides mastering the art of layering, Lu is also skilled at not spending a lot of money on makeup. Her friend described her style as "Duane Reade chic," fitting since she purchases most of her beauty products from the New York-based drugstore.

She's big on Neutrogena moisturizer and liquid eyeliner, L'Oreal concealer and Pantene shampoo and conditioner, which keeps her new haircut looking full and healthy. However, the one thing Lu won't cut costs on is eyeshadow. We all have our guilty beauty pleasures.
