We live for a "new use for old things" moment, especially when it involves stunning architecture and vintage aeronautics, an usual duo we discovered in this 4,700-square-foot home made from pieces of a former 747 aircraft.
Homeowner Francie Rehwald and architect David Hertz conceived of the space and spent five years bringing their vision to life on a hillside in Malibu, Ca.
The project, which started at an airplane boneyard in the Mojave Desert, according to Houzz, took a little more than your average building planning to pull off. In addition to disassembling the plane and shipping the parts to Malibu by truck, Rehwald and Hertz had to also close off parts of highways to transport certain pieces and register the property with the FAA, so pilots do not mistake it as a downed aircraft.
