Salvaged Pan Am Airplane Is Transformed Into Gorgeous Malibu Home (PHOTOS)

LOOK: You'll Never Guess What This Home Used To Be

We live for a "new use for old things" moment, especially when it involves stunning architecture and vintage aeronautics, an usual duo we discovered in this 4,700-square-foot home made from pieces of a former 747 aircraft.

Homeowner Francie Rehwald and architect David Hertz conceived of the space and spent five years bringing their vision to life on a hillside in Malibu, Ca.

The project, which started at an airplane boneyard in the Mojave Desert, according to Houzz, took a little more than your average building planning to pull off. In addition to disassembling the plane and shipping the parts to Malibu by truck, Rehwald and Hertz had to also close off parts of highways to transport certain pieces and register the property with the FAA, so pilots do not mistake it as a downed aircraft.

Take a look at the gorgeous results in the slideshow below and head over to Houzz for more details.
