'Great Expectations' Trailer Features A Predictably Kooky Helena Bonham Carter In Dickens Update

New Look At 'Great Expectations'

It's interesting that "Great Expectations" has been far removed from virtually all early Oscar buzz. The classic Charles Dickens tale, remade by Mike Newell ("Four Weddings and a Funeral," "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire"), feels ripe for awards consideration, with its gothic aestheticism and period-piece fixtures. (But then again, this movie has been sitting around for more than a year.) Alas, Dickens fans will presumably settle for a more low-key release for the newest adaptation of the classic novel. The update, whose first full trailer is now online, stars Jeremy Irvine ("War Horse") as Pip, the once-impoverished orphan who falls for the elusive Estella (Holliday Grainger, "The Borgias"). The movie also stars Helen Bonham Carter as old Miss Havisham (in all her typical zaniness, of course), Ralph Fiennes as Magwitch and Sally Hawkins as Mrs. Joe.

"Great Expectations" will open in limited release on Nov. 8.
