WATCH: 'Marriage Is...' Project Counters Negative Relationship Images, Makes Us Cry

8.8 years is the average length of an American marriage. It's a stat photographer Sabrina Thompson points out in her latest project "Marriage Is...," a video and social media campaign aimed at defying the negative imagery associated with relationships in the U.S., and to bring out of its shadow inspiring examples of couples who exemplify true love.

To start, Thompson looked to her parents as defiers of the odds, having made it way past the average with a marriage lasting 40 years. Then she gathered and photographed other couples whose relationships have lasted longer than eight years and is now asking the Internet to join her cause.

"Marriage Is..." follows the first in Thompson's "Social Series" project, which sought to promote positive images of black fathers, beginning with her own. The campaign reached some 28 thousand people in six days, a note in Thompson's latest video reads.

Grab a tissue and check out her beautiful photos of love and longevity in the video above and tell us what you think "Marriage Is..." in the comments section below.
