Is Fox's new sitcom "Dads" (premiering tonight at 8 p.m. ET) really that bad? Critics have pretty much all panned "Dads," calling it "unpleasant," "offensive," "a waste of talent" and "morally disgusting." In turn, Fox used those bad "Dads" reviews for their ads in an attempt at anti-marketing, sort of like reverse psychology for TV fans.
So who should you listen to? I will say this: The second episode of "Dads," while still not at all funny, was a marked improvement in the "horribly offensive" category. I still won't be watching, but that's ... something.
But with a cast including Seth Green, Giovanni Ribisi, Martin Mull and Peter Riegert, and from the minds of Seth MacFarlane, Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, who brought us "Ted," it should be much more, right? Our interview with the cast (above) kind of pinpoints the core issue.
"There's not much funnier than somebody, like, really, uncontrollably crying hysterically," Green says. Really? I can think of a lot of funnier things, but maybe that's just me. (And no, jokes about Indian food burps and septuagenarian nudity are not in that "funnier than crying" category. And yes, they are in "Dads.")
