Couple Gets Creative With New Jersey Adoption Billboard

Couple Takes Unusual Step In Adoption Process

When "Orna" and "Jay" adopted their first child, Ben, several years ago, the process took two years. This go around, the Maryland couple decided on a flashier approach, hoping to cut down on the time it takes to find a birth mother.

According to CBS New York, the pair expedited their search with a billboard advertising their status as prospective parents along the New Jersey Turnpike.

At a cost of $2,000 a month, the adoption billboard features a picture of Orna and Jay (not their real names) in a loving embrace. A phone number and web address are given as a means to contact them. The information is located underneath a header that reads, "Loving Couple Looking to Adopt."

“We feel as a couple our goal is to market ourselves to as many people [as possible] to let them know there’s an option for their 16-, 18-, 20-, or 25-year-old young woman who isn't ready to be a mom,” Jay explained to CBS. “What we hope to find is that one unique situation where someone picks up the phone or goes to our website and says ‘hey I can give a great gift to this couple.’"

On their website, the couple emphasize their qualifications and family stability, seeking to ease any fears a birth mother might have: "We understand how challenging and difficult it must be to place your child up for adoption. We would be grateful for the opportunity to speak with you about your decision and see if our family would be the best option for your adoption plan."

Orna and Jay's efforts mirror those of "Wendy" and "Josh," a Michigan couple who erected a billboard in 2010 to help adopt a child.
