Christine Quinn Leads NYC Mayoral Race, Weiner Slips To Fourth: Poll

No Dem Commands NYC Mayoral Race Yet

New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn leads the Democratic primary field in the city's mayoral race, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll released Thursday night, with former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) falling to a relatively distant fourth place.

Quinn has the support of 25 percent of registered city Democrats, followed by former city Comptroller Bill Thompson with 16 percent and New York City Public Advocate Bill de Blasio with 14 percent. Weiner is now supported by just 10 percent of voters.

Among a smaller subset of Democratic voters who said they would definitely vote in the Sept. 10 primary, Quinn has 26 percent support, with Thompson at 19 percent and de Blasio at 14 percent.

Quinn has led in every poll conducted since further details of Weiner's sexting came to light. De Blasio and Thompson have both seen their shares of the vote increase as well.

But more than one-quarter of registered Democrats still say they're undecided. As the Times notes, Quinn's current levels of support put her far short of the 40 percent she needs to avoid an Oct. 1 runoff.

The poll also found that former Gov. Eliot Spitzer leads Democratic rival Scott Stringer, 44 percent to 35 percent, in the race for city comptroller.

The NYT/Siena poll surveyed 505 registered Democratic voters in New York City by phone between Aug. 2 and Aug. 7.
