Teen Boy Shot In Chicago: 15-Year-Old Among 7 Injured In Shootings As Cops Brace For Summer

Just hours before the official start of summer, seven people — including two teenagers — were injured in shootings around Chicago Thursday night.

A 15-year-old boy shot around 10:15 p.m. Thursday in the West Pullman neighborhood was the youngest victim of the evening gun violence.

The Tribune reports the boy was shot in the arm and ankle by someone who may have fired from a dark four-door car as the boy stood on a corner, according to police.

Roughly an hour later, a second teen was shot in Park Manor. Authorities say a 17-year-old girl and a 24-year-old man were shot standing in front of a home near 68th and Wabash around 11:20 p.m., according to ABC Chicago reports.

The five remaining shootings took place between 2:20 in the afternoon and just after 1 a.m. Friday, according to the Sun-Times. Police did not have any suspects in custody.

Police Supt. Garry McCarthy acknowledged crime is likely to spike with the onset of steamy summer temps, telling CBS Chicago, “This is a fact in every urban city across the country." Nevertheless, the city's top cop says the Chicago Police Department is not changing its strategy for the summer months.

“We don’t have a different strategy for the summer, but we will be doing more of the same things that we’ve been doing; Operation Impact, our gang reduction strategy; a different method of doing our narcotics enforcement that focuses on eliminating markets on the corners,” McCarthy said.

Meanwhile, St. Sabina's Father Michael Pfleger is calling on Chicagoans to "occupy the streets" on the city's South Side to help curb violence in the area Friday evening.

"Either we occupy the streets or our children's blood flows in them," Pfleger wrote on his Facebook page.

The rally starts at St. Sabina on 78th and Racine at 7 p.m. Friday.
