Iyanla Vanzant is a spiritual person. She reads the Bible every day, asks God for guidance and allows the words to nourish her soul. But that's not all Iyanla incorporates into her regular spiritual practices. Music is also an important part of her routine.
In this video from "Super Soul Sunday," Iyanla reveals some of the (wide ranging!) songs on her spiritual playlist and explains how passionate she is about music in general. "Music ministers to me," she tells Oprah. "I don't go anywhere without my music."
When she wants to listen to spiritually inspiring songs, Iyanla turns to many different types of artists. One song that makes Iyanla's list is "Just A Prayer Away" by gospel singer Yolanda Adams. Another is "Great Is Thy Mercy" by gospel singer Donnie McClurkin -- a song Oprah says she loves.
"I was listening to that in Maui and... it brought me to my knees," Oprah says.
"Take you down! That's what you want," Iyanla says.
Also on Iyanla's list is what many would consider a surprising choice for a spiritual soundtrack: "Lose Yourself" by rapper Eminem. Quoting Eminem's lyrics, Iyanla explains what she likes about his song. "'You only get one shot. Do not miss your chance to blow. Opportunity comes once in a lifetime,'" she says.
India.Arie's "Get It Together" is another of Iyanla's spiritual favorites. "'One shot to the heart without breaking your skin. No one has the power to hurt you like your kin,'" Iyanla quotes the song.
Iyanla's voice becomes soft as she reveals which Whitney Houston song she listens to for inspiration, taking turns reciting the powerful lyrics with Oprah before gesturing toward the sky and quoting a different Whitney song as she says simply, "I look to you."
