Lil Wayne Flag Controversy: Rapper Says He Didn't Trample American Flag 'On Purpose'

Lil Wayne Explains American Flag Stomp

Lil Wayne came under fire this week when a controversial video was released showing the rapper stepping on the American flag.

A behind-the-scenes video of Weezy filming the music video to his song "God Bless Amerika" shows him rapping in front of the flag, then stepping on it as the flag drops to the ground. Take a look in the video above.

The reaction to Lil Wayne's supposed disrespect of the flag was quick and angry. Viewers spoke out on Twitter saying they "lost respect" for the artist, while one MMA fighter claimed he "would do almost anything to fight Lil Wayne" as "desecrating the American flag is a sure way to piss [him] off."

The 30-year-old rapper was prompted to comment on the incident, taking to his Twitter page to claim it wasn't on purpose.

"God Bless Amerika" is the latest single off of Wayne's recent album, "I Am Not a Human Being II." Flag-stomping music video aside, the lyrics to the single are already controversial in their own right. The track has Weezy rapping, "God bless America / This old godless America... Damn, military minded, lost and can’t find it / The stars on the flag are never shining."
