'The Greenest Home' Highlights Some Of The Most Efficient Living Spaces On The Planet (PHOTOS)

Are These The Most Efficient Homes On The Planet?

Some of the world's most efficient homes are on display in a new book documenting a growing trend in green architecture.

The Greenest Home: Superinsulated and Passive House Design, written by Julie Torres Moskovitz and published by Princeton Architectural Press, features 18 uber-efficient homes that are virtually airtight and heated mainly by the sun. Passively designed homes are constructed without mechanical heating systems, and are perfected to use sunlight and thermal energy from everyday activities like toasting bread to keep a home at a constant, livable temperature.

These techniques can cut heating bills by up to 90 percent, according to the Passive House Institue, and many of the houses are absolutely gorgeous.

You can snag a copy of The Greenest Home online and in bookstores this month. But until then, take a look at a few of the stunning homes featured in the book below.
