Tennessee woman Jodi Eastgate thought her wedding ring was lost forever when it was accidentally thrown into a five-ton hotel trash compactor last week.
But thanks to a persistent hotel staff member, that ring is now back on Eastgate's finger.
Eastgate told Chicago news station CBS2 Friday that while she and her family were checking out of The Drake Hotel last Sunday, she realized that her ring was missing. She thought it might have fallen into a bag next to her bed, but by the time she got back up to the room to check, the bag had already been thrown into the trash.
The trash couldn't be searched until the next day, so Eastgate's family boarded their flight home to Tennessee while Eastgate stayed at the Drake.
Staff member David Lyons searched the trash for three hours until he finally found the ring.
"I started jumping," Eastgate said. "My feet weren't on the ground anymore. Not only me, but he was. He kind of gave an expletive, like 'Oh my gosh.'"

Not many people would be willing to search through trash to find a lost ring, but that's exactly what a New York City Parks Department worker did last year. He found a woman's lost ring in just 45 minutes. In 2011, a devoted husband searched through nine tons of garbage to find his wife's ring.
