Obama West Texas Proclamation: Flags To Be Flown At Half-Staff After Fertilizer Plant Explosion

Obama Orders Flags At Half Staff For Texas

President Barack Obama issued a presidential proclamation Wednesday ordering all flags in Texas to be flown at half-staff in honor of those who died in a massive explosion at a fertilizer plant in the town of West.

At least 15 people, the majority of which were first responders, died in the April 17 explosion.

"West is a town that many Texans hold near and dear to their hearts, and as residents continue to respond to this tragedy, they will have the support of the American people," Obama said in a statement on April 18.

On April 22, the White House said Obama would travel to West to attend a memorial service for victims of the explosion.

Below, the full text of Obama's proclamation:

As a mark of respect for the memory of those who perished in the explosion in West, Texas, on April 17, 2013, I hereby order, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at all public buildings and grounds and at all military facilities and naval stations of the Federal Government in the State of Texas on April 25, 2013.
