DeLorean On I-55: Photo Of 'Back To The Future' Sports Car, Truck Fire Sparks Incredible Story

Photo Of DeLorean, Truck Fire Sparks Incredible Story

What a world we live in.

On Monday afternoon, Chicagoan Chris Ernst came across a truck fire while driving on I-55 just south of the 90/94 exit ramp and, while traffic was stopped, snapped a photo of the smoky scene just as a sleek silver DeLorean stood between him and the fire.

After Ernst posted the photo on his Instagram and Facebook accounts on Tuesday, his friend Mike Bradberry shared the incredible shot to both his Instagram feed as well as the local Reddit group. Before too long came this comment: "HAHA! That's me in my DeLorean!"

That commenter, Corey Ooms, is both the DeLorean's owner and driver photographed in Ernst's shot. Ooms had posted his own photo of the fire on Reddit's Chicago group the previous day which, you guessed it, he had likely taken within minutes, if not seconds, of Ernst's shot.

Could the story get stranger? Yes: Ooms, who bought his DeLorean eight years ago after finding it for sale online in North Carolina, shares a mutual friend who first connected him to Bradberry and Ernst.

"This has gone from mere coincidence to downright crazy," Ooms told HuffPost via e-mail on Wednesday.

A small world after all -- or are we all being Punk'd? This is heavy.

Correction: An earlier version of this story identified the photo sharer as Mike Riffle, not Mike Bradberry. HuffPost regrets the error.
