Steve Kornacki Named 'Up' Host, Replacing Chris Hayes On MSNBC Weekend Host

Steve Kornacki Replacing Chris Hayes On 'Up'

Steve Kornacki, currently a co-host on MSNBC's "The Cycle," was named the new host of the network's weekend show "Up" on Tuesday. Kornacki will replace Chris Hayes, who is launching a new prime time show.

It's a big promotion for Kornacki, who is also a writer for Salon. He very much fits the wonkish, nerdy image that MSNBC is increasingly projecting across a large swath of its programming. He also becomes the third openly gay solo host on MSNBC, joining Rachel Maddow and Thomas Roberts.

"I want to thank Chris Hayes and his team for creating a totally original and incredibly smart model for political television," Kornacki said in a statement.

There was no word on whether Kornacki's wardrobe would be changing now that he is getting his own show.
