Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart Relationship Trouble Is 'Tragic,' Says 'Twilight' Author

Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart's Fame Is 'Tragic,' Says 'Twilight' Author

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart's on and off-screen romance has taken the world by storm.

But what it's also done is create some unwanted drama and public scrutiny, which the longtime couple wasn't expecting when they first decided to acknowledge their relationship.

"Twilight" author Stephenie Meyer recently spoke out about "Robsten," admitting that she feels bad that they have to deal with such harsh criticism -- especially since 22-year-old Stewart's highly publicized affair with her now 42-year-old"Snow White and the Huntsman" director, Rupert Sanders.

"Here's the thing: there are some actors who are looking to be world famous, to be that household name, and although they might discover that there are a lot of negative things involved in that, it's what they want," Meyer tells U.K.'s The Times.

"But that doesn't apply to Kristen and Rob," she continues, "That's what makes it kind of ironic and tragic.''

Meyer, who has been promoting her upcoming book-turned-flick "The Host," also adds that the privacy loving pair "don't enjoy the parts [of fame] that other people would. And I totally get that, because it would not be my thing either."

Still, Meyer confesses that her dose of stardom has been a nice one and that the cast has had to take on the brunt of the judgement.

"At the same time -- and this is where the guilt comes from -- it's created this nice, peaceful place for me. They took all of my heat, which I feel bad about," the 39-year-old author says. "If they had the choice, I've no idea if they'd even do 'Twilight' again. I just don't know. I think this has all come at a heavy price.''
