"Music is in my head," piano prodigy Ryan Wang explained to the Vancouver Sun in a recent video. The 5-year-old is making a name for himself with his remarkable musical gift; the pint-sized pianist will be performing at Carnegie Hall as part of the 2013 American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition.
As if the one gig wasn't enough, Wang is also booked to make an appearance with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. As the introductory newscaster awkwardly puts it: "To say he can tickle the ivories would be the understatement of the year."
Wang spent hours playing on an electric keyboard before his mother decided to enroll him in formal music lessons last year. "I was thinking four years is so young, right? You cannot even read the notes," Wang's mother recalled to the Vancouver Sun. However, it wasn't long before the tiny pianist was mastering 18-page concertos.
Prepare to melt while watching the video above as Wang contemplates his long future with the piano in a way only a child would: "I am going to play piano, I think, for ten years." (An unfathomably long amount of time for a five-year-old to imagine, we're sure.)
